Safeguarding

Safeguarding is the broad term we use for any aspect of protecting a child from abuse. It covers many areas, ensuring that the child’s welfare is paramount. From looking after their personal data, to all areas of neglect or abuse whether it be emotional, physical, sexual, personal health or extremism, safeguarding is at the core of daily life at Wheels VLS Centre.

The legal definition of the Children’s Act 2004 defines safeguarding as:

  • Protecting young people from maltreatment.
  • Preventing impairment of a young person’s health and development.
  • Ensuring that young people are growing up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care.
  • Enabling young people to have optimum life chances and to enter adulthood successfully.
